This is a quick guide on how to take overhead photos – at least how I take them! I set up my backdrop stand and I attach clamp to it with a little clip that holds my phone to the top bar. I prepare my scene on the floor underneath and a I use a little bluetooth remote to take the photos.
You could also set it up above your bed, but I get more light in our living room so that’s where I normally do it. Plus it’s a lot more room to move around and easier to manage with a baby and two corgis.
I purchased all of these items off of amazon and included the links below. The backdrop stand I use for different backgrounds as well, not just for this set up. The clip I use on my other tripods and the remote is super handy (even though I sometimes use my toes to press the button). I purchased the clamp specifically for the overhead photos and I really like it. It seems really sturdy with my phone, but I don’t feel comfortable using it with a heavy DSLR. I read in the reviews that it can be attached to bicycle handles and that is something I’d like to try.
