From the first day we moved into this home, the plan was not to stay very long, so I have always held back with decorating and making it our own. Over the past four years that we’ve lived here, not only have I grown to love this special house, but with our baby girl coming soon, I decided to go all in with her nursery. I don’t know how much longer we will be here but I didn’t want that to make it feel any less cozy, beautiful or functional. Now that it is pretty much complete, I am delighted with how the nursery turned out and it has become my favourite room in the house.
I started working on the nursery when I was 5 months pregnant and right when we went into lockdown due to the pandemic. The majority of my purchases, from the wallpaper to the crib, were all made online. Not everything I ordered worked out, but returns were not much of a hassle and in the end it all came together better than I imagined.
I knew I wanted an accent wall and for a while I was torn between the idea of decals and wallpaper. After scouring Pinterest and Etsy, looking at customer photo reviews, I decided a wallpaper would look best. I wanted something floral but not too busy so that it wouldn’t make the room feel smaller. I also wanted removable wallpaper so that it wouldn’t be a nuisance to change in the future.
The wallpaper I ended up ordering was “Vintage Floral” wallpaper from KidsColoray on Etsy. The owner was quick to respond to my questions and create a custom order to fit my wall. The wallpaper arrived in four panels and was a challenge to put it up, especially since it was our first time.
We picked up the following tools at our home hardware store which we found helpful:
- Bennett Wallpaper Smoother
- Home Handyman Putty Knife (Plastic 3″)
- Utility Knife
Tips:
- Make sure you have excess wallpaper at the top and bottom, so if your ceiling isn’t perfectly straight like ours, you won’t get stuck. You can just cut the excess wallpaper off with a utility knife when you’re done.
- Remove the back of the wallpaper a little bit at a time so it doesn’t stick to itself and become difficult to manage.
The nursery, like all the other bedrooms in the house, has a bamboo wood ceiling, which inspired me to go for a modern boho style. That is what I had in mind when I chose the Kaiser Point 4-in-1 crib from Wayfair. I liked its simplicity and its modern legs. I decided to keep the bedding to a minimal, with just a fitted sheet and decorative blanket that I ordered from RH Baby and Child.
Other pieces that were also ordered form Wayfair are the chandelier and the leaning bookcase.
I chose to use the Hemnes Ikea dresser with a changing pad as a change table and I found a cute boho style mirror at Bouclair to hang above it.
I can’t wait to see our little girl enjoy this room!
